The Roots Rider Cougar Pro is the 60-volt version of our dual-suspension moped-style e-bike. Same frame, same fork and shock, same bench saddle — but a 60V system with a 1200Wh battery and 1600W of peak output, good for up to 38 mph where the law allows. It is the fastest and most powerful bike we sell, and the one that most deserves a careful read of your local rules before you order.

What 60 volts buys you
Voltage is what a motor has to work with. Going from 48V to 60V does not just raise the top speed — it changes how the bike behaves when it is loaded: pulling away uphill with a passenger, holding speed into a headwind, climbing without the motor bogging down and heating up.
If you only ride flat tarmac alone, you will not use it. If you climb, carry, or ride into wind, you will feel it on every ride.
38 mph and the law — read this before you order
This matters more than any specification on this page, so we are putting it in a diagram rather than burying it in small print.

Same comfort, more of everything else
The Pro keeps what makes the Cougar good: the sprung fork, the rear shock, the bench saddle, the fat tires, the 350 lb payload. Nothing about the ride quality is traded away for the extra power.
If you want the same bike inside legal Class 3 speeds and a lower price, the standard Cougar is the same machine at 34 mph.
Who the Cougar Pro is for
Buy it if
- You ride hills, carry a passenger, or ride into wind regularly.
- You ride mostly on private land, trails or roads where the speed is permitted.
- You have checked your state and city rules and you are comfortable with them.
- You want the most powerful bike in our range.
Look elsewhere if
- You ride shared paths and cycle lanes — the Cougar or a Class 2 bike is the safer buy.
- You want to fold it — the Rebel 2 Pro folds and has 80 miles.
- You want the longest range — the Cheetah 2 Pro carries 1440Wh.
- You are buying a first e-bike — start with less power, not more.

Cougar Pro questions, answered
How fast is the Cougar Pro?
Up to 38 mph, where local law allows. That is above the 28 mph Class 3 limit used by most US states, so it is not a bike you should assume you can ride on any public path. Check your state and city rules first.
How far can it go on one charge?
The 1200Wh battery is rated for up to 80 miles of pedal assist under the manufacturer's test conditions. Ridden hard near its top speed, expect roughly a third of that — speed costs range faster than anything else.
Is the Pro worth it over the standard Cougar?
If you ride long distances, carry a passenger regularly, or live somewhere hilly, the extra battery and torque are the reason to pay more. For flat city riding the standard Cougar is already enough, and it stays within Class 3 speeds.
Can two people ride it?
Yes, on the bench saddle, within the 350 lb payload. Fit the passenger footrest pegs and check your local rules on passengers.
Does it have suspension?
Front fork and rear shock, both with adjustable preload, on 20 x 4.0-inch tires — identical to the standard Cougar.
Can I limit the speed?
The display allows the assist level to be set lower, which is how most owners ride it in town. Do not attempt to modify the controller or the limiter in the other direction: that is unlawful in most states and voids the warranty outright.
Is it certified?
Yes. UL 2849 for the bike and UL 2271 for the battery.
Range, speed and payload figures are the manufacturer's published specifications, measured under their test conditions. Your results will differ with rider weight, terrain, tire pressure, temperature and assist level. A top speed of 38 mph is above the Class 3 limit in most US states and may require registration, licensing or off-road use. It is your responsibility to check and comply with the rules where you ride. Roots Rider is operated by GHRAM LLC, Wyoming.
