The Roots Rider Prowler is a chopper-style electric bike: a long raked fork, ape-hanger handlebars and a low-dropping frame, on 20 x 4-inch Kenda fat tires. It is the most expensive and the most looked-at bike we sell. If you want an e-bike that reads as a motorcycle at twenty paces and still pedals like a bicycle, this is the one.

You sit in it, not on it
The Prowler puts your feet forward, your hands up and your back at rest. The saddle sits low, the bars come to you, and the long wheelbase settles the bike down at speed instead of twitching under you.
That geometry is the whole point. It is a slower, more deliberate way to travel than a commuter e-bike, and it is why people ride the Prowler for the sake of riding rather than only to arrive.
How the Prowler differs from the Cheetah 2
This is the question we are asked most, so here is the answer in one picture. Both are cafe-racer-inspired and both run fat tires. The geometry is what separates them.
The Prowler's fork is raked out and its saddle drops between the wheels. The Cheetah 2 keeps a near-vertical fork and a higher, more conventional riding position. Same family, two different reasons to ride.

Presence is the feature
People stop the Prowler in car parks. The quad LED headlight, the tank, the brown saddle and the ape-hangers read as a small motorcycle, and that is deliberate. Underneath it is still a Class 3 electric bicycle: no licence, no registration and no insurance in most US states.
If you want to blend in, buy the Rebel 2. If you want to be asked what it is, buy this.
What 70 miles actually means
The 70-mile figure is the manufacturer's number, measured on the lowest assist level, on flat ground, with a light rider and no wind. Nobody rides like that. Here is a more honest picture of the same 1040Wh battery.
Built by us. Finished by you.
Every Prowler leaves the factory the same way: Jet Black frame, brown leather-look tank, black Kenda tires. What owners do next is the part we like.
Who the Prowler is for
Buy it if
- You want a bike people photograph, and you are fine being noticed.
- You ride for the ride: coast roads, seafronts, long easy loops.
- You are roughly 5 ft 4 in to 6 ft 4 in and want a laid-back position.
- You have somewhere to store a long, heavy bike that does not fold.
Look elsewhere if
- You need to fold it or carry it upstairs — the Rebel 2 does that.
- You want to carry a passenger or a child seat — the Flux is built for it.
- You ride rough trails — the Cougar has dual suspension.
- You want our longest range — that is the Cheetah 2 Pro at 1440Wh.
In the box
- Prowler electric bike, about 85% assembled
- 1040Wh removable battery and charger
- Two keys for the battery lock
- Pedals, front wheel, handlebar hardware and the tools to fit them
- Manual and UL certification paperwork
Most people are riding within an hour: fit the front wheel, straighten and bolt the handlebar, screw on the pedals, set the saddle height, check the brakes, then charge it fully before the first ride.
Prowler questions, answered
Does the Prowler need a licence or registration?
In most US states a Class 3 electric bicycle needs no licence, no registration and no insurance. Rules vary by state and by city, and some places restrict Class 3 bikes on shared paths. Check your local rules before you ride.
How far can the Prowler go on one charge?
The 1040Wh battery is rated for up to 70 miles of pedal assist under the manufacturer's test conditions. On mixed real-world riding at a middle assist level, plan on 42 to 50 miles. Throttle-only riding roughly halves it.
How fast is the Prowler?
Up to 28 mph with pedal assist, where local law allows Class 3 riding.
How much weight can it carry?
Up to 400 lb of total payload, covering the rider and luggage. The Prowler has a single saddle and is not designed to carry a passenger.
How tall do I need to be?
The laid-back position suits riders from roughly 5 ft 4 in to 6 ft 4 in. Shorter riders often prefer the step-through Runabout 2, which has a 13.8-inch standover height.
Can I modify the Prowler?
Owners regularly change the tank, the tires and the saddle. Cosmetic changes are your own work and are not covered by the manufacturer warranty. Never modify the motor, the controller or the speed limiter: that is unlawful in most states and voids the warranty outright.
Is the battery safe?
The bike carries UL 2849 certification and the battery carries UL 2271. Charge it indoors on a hard surface, use the supplied charger, and do not leave it charging unattended overnight.
Range, speed and payload figures are the manufacturer's published specifications, measured under their test conditions. Your results will differ with rider weight, terrain, tire pressure, temperature and assist level. Roots Rider is operated by GHRAM LLC, Wyoming.
