The Roots Rider Cheetah 2 is a cafe-racer electric bike: a sculpted tank, a long bench saddle, a quad LED headlight and 20 x 4-inch fat tires, on a Class 3 platform that will hold 28 mph. It looks like a 1960s motorcycle and is legally a bicycle. Of everything we sell, this is the one that gets the most compliments from strangers.

Legally a bicycle, visually not
The tank is the trick. It is not a fuel tank — there is nothing in it — but it is what makes people read the silhouette as a motorcycle rather than a bicycle with a battery bolted underneath.
Underneath, it is a Class 3 electric bicycle: no licence, no registration, no insurance in most US states, and allowed in bike lanes where Class 3 is permitted.
What makes it a cafe racer

Class 3, and what that means
Class 3 means the assist keeps working up to 28 mph, which is the difference between keeping up with town traffic and being overtaken by it. It is the class most commuters want.
Some cities restrict Class 3 bikes on shared paths and multi-use trails, so check yours. On roads and in bike lanes it is permitted almost everywhere in the US.
Who the Cheetah 2 is for
Buy it if
- You want a bike that turns heads and still rides in a bike lane.
- You commute on roads and want 28 mph assist.
- You ride 15 to 35 miles at a time.
- You want the cafe-racer look without the Prowler's price.
Look elsewhere if
- You ride 50 miles or more — the Cheetah 2 Pro has 1440Wh.
- You need to fold or store it small — the Rebel 2 folds.
- You ride rough ground — the Cougar has dual suspension.
- You need a low step-over — the Runabout 2 is 13.8 in.

Cheetah 2 questions, answered
How far can the Cheetah 2 go on one charge?
The 840Wh battery is rated for up to 60 miles of pedal assist under the manufacturer's test conditions. Expect less with heavy throttle use, hills, headwind or a heavier rider — on mixed riding at a middle assist level, plan on 34 to 42 miles.
How fast is the Cheetah 2?
Up to 28 mph with pedal assist, where local law allows Class 3 riding.
Does the Cheetah 2 need a licence?
In most US states a Class 3 electric bike needs no licence, registration or insurance, but rules vary by state and city. Some places restrict Class 3 bikes on shared paths. Check yours before you ride.
How much weight can it carry?
Up to 400 lb of total payload, which covers a rider and luggage.
Is it delivered assembled?
It arrives around 85% assembled. Fitting the front wheel, handlebar, pedals and seat takes most people under an hour with the tools included.
What is the difference between the Cheetah 2 and the Prowler?
Geometry. The Cheetah 2 keeps a near-vertical fork and a conventional riding position. The Prowler uses a long raked chopper fork and ape-hanger bars, so you sit low and back with your hands up. Same family, two different rides.
Is the battery certified?
Yes. UL 2849 for the bike and UL 2271 for the battery. Charge it indoors on a hard surface with the supplied charger.
Range, speed and payload figures are the manufacturer's published specifications, measured under their test conditions. Your results will differ with rider weight, terrain, tire pressure, temperature and assist level. Roots Rider is operated by GHRAM LLC, Wyoming.
