Check the fit before you order

This is the question we get most, and the mistake that costs people the most time. A front basket mounts differently depending on whether the bike has a suspension fork. A frame bag is shaped to one top tube — a Cougar bag will not sit right on a Rebel. Tell us your exact model at ghram.llc@gmail.com and we will confirm it fits before you pay.

What is worth buying first

If you have just ordered a bike and are wondering what you actually need on day one, it is a shorter list than the shop would like you to believe.

  • A floor pump with a gauge. The cheapest range you will ever buy. Fat tyres run at low pressure and lose air steadily, and soft tyres cost you 10 to 15% of your range plus a good deal of handling.
  • A proper lock. These bikes weigh 55 to 99 lb, which stops nobody with a van. Budget accordingly.
  • A rack or basket, if you will carry anything at all. Riding with a rucksack on a bike this upright gets old within a week.
  • A helmet. Not sold here, but on Class 3 many states require one for every rider regardless of age — and you should wear one anyway.

Everything else can wait until you know how you actually ride.

Carrying a passenger

The Flux is the one built for it: a long-tail deck that is part of the frame, rated for 180 lb, with fold-out footboards on both sides. The Cougar and Cougar Pro have a bench saddle and take passenger footrest pegs. The Runabout 2 and the Rebel platform accept a passenger seat and back rest on the rack. Before you plan around it, check your local rules: carrying a passenger on an electric bike is not permitted everywhere, and where it is, there are usually conditions on age and footrests.

A note on the free gift packs

The Rebel 2 and Rebel 2 Pro ship with a $348 accessory pack, and the Cougar and Cougar Pro with a $225 pack. Those items are packed into the bike's own crate by the manufacturer and arrive with the bike — you do not add them to your cart, and you will not see them as separate line items on your order. The exact contents are listed on each of those four product pages.

Fitting and maintenance

Racks and fenders go on last, once the wheel, handlebar and saddle are aligned, and everything wants retightening after the first 30 miles as bolts settle and cables stretch. The order to do it in, and the four problems new owners actually hit, are in the assembly and first-ride guide.
